We literally raced the sun west. Vikram was "officially" driving at 85 mph, which explains why none of the roadside objects are in focus even with high speed ISOs.
The city of Joshua Tree - near the western entrance of the park, and probably the only township in the world with roadside Joshua Trees.
And tell me why "The X and the Y" is such a favourite with sci-fi and fantasy authors - everybody from Poe to Bradbury has succumbed to its charms. My favourite is the lurid "The Pit and the Pendulum".
